Official Descriptions för The Vampire Diaries (Season 5) och The Originals
Family is power. The Original Vampire family swore it to each other a thousand years ago. They pledged to remain together, always and forever. Now, centuries have passed and the bonds of family are broken. Time, tragedy and hunger for power have torn the Original Family apart. When Klaus Mikaelson, the original vampire-werewolf hybrid, receives a mysterious tip that a plot is brewing against him in the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans, he returns to the city his family helped build. Klaus’ questions lead him to a reunion with his diabolical former protégé, Marcel, a charismatic vampire who has total control over the human and supernatural inhabitants of New Orleans. Determined to help his brother find redemption, Elijah follows Klaus and soon learns that the werewolf Hayley has also come to the French Quarter searching for clues to her family history, and has fallen into the hands of a powerful witch named Sophie. Tensions between the town’s supernatural factions are nearing a breaking point as Marcel commands his devoted followers and rules with absolute power. For Klaus, the thought of answering to his powerful protégé is unthinkable, and he vows to reclaim what was once his – the power, the city and his family. While they wait to see if their sister Rebekah will leave Mystic Falls and join them, Klaus and Elijah form an uneasy alliance with the witches to ensure that New Orleans will be ruled by THE ORIGINALS once again. The series stars Joseph Morgan (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Immortals”) as Klaus, Daniel Gillies (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Saving Hope”) as Elijah, Claire Holt (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Pretty Little Liars”) as Rebekah, Phoebe Tonkin (“The Vampire Diaries,” “The Secret Circle”) as Hayley, Charles Michael Davis (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Switched at Birth”) as Marcel, Daniella Pineda (“The Fitzgerald Family Christmas,” “Homeland”) as Sophie, Leah Pipes (“The Deep End,” “Sorority Row”) as Cami and Danielle Campbell (“Starstruck,” “Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection”) as Davina. THE ORIGINALS is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with My So-Called Company, Alloy Entertainment, Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios. Julie Plec (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Kyle XY,” “Wasteland”), Leslie Morgenstein (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Gossip Girl”) and Gina Girolamo (“The Lying Game”) are executive producers. Plec wrote the pilot episode, which was directed by Chris Grismer (“The Vampire Diaries”).
The Vampire Diaries:
In the tumultuous fourth season of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, the world of Mystic Falls was turned upside down when the beautiful and compassionate Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) came face-to-face with her worst nightmare – life as a vampire. While Elena struggled to control her new powers and the overwhelming thirst for blood, the astonishing news that a cure for vampirism may actually exist reached Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) Salvatore, the two vampire brothers who love her. Their search for the cure leads the brothers, along with Elena’s brother Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) and her best friends Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Caroline (Candice Accola), to a horrifying confrontation with the ancient and all-powerful immortal, Silas, who has been entombed with the cure for more than 2,000 years. But Elena isn’t the only vampire who longs to return to life as a human, and the question of who will take the cure is resolved in the heart-stopping season finale, along with moments of unexpected joy, unspeakable sorrow, and a confession of true love. The series heads into its fifth season with some characters headed off to college, a newly cured vampire trying to survive as a human, and a shocking Salvatore secret. Based on the series of books by L. J. Smith, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Outerbanks Entertainment, Alloy Entertainment, Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios. The series was developed by Kevin Williamson (“The Following,” “Scream”) & Julie Plec (“Kyle XY,” “Wasteland”), who serve as executive producers along with Leslie Morgenstein (“Gossip Girl,” “Pretty Little Liars”) and Caroline Dries (“Melrose Place,” “Smallville”).

Along with the fans, Morgan admits he was completely caught off guard by Klaus becoming a father, saying, “I knew it was going to be her baby and I still didn’t clue in that I was the father of it!”
And as for how The Originals will differ from Vampire Diaries, Morgan explains, “It’s going to be darker, a little sexier and edgier. Vampire Diaries was more about these kids growing up, a coming-of-age high school story; our show is more about creatures embracing their true nature and reveling in that.”

Julie Plec pratar om säsong 5
Last year after we wrapped season three, some of the writers and I stayed on for an extra five weeks talking about story for season four. We knew that we wanted to give Stefan and give Paul Wesley specifically an opportunity to sort of spread his wings a bit more. He did such a good job playing Ripper Stefan, so we wanted to play a long-foiled plan into motion that we weren’t sure if we’d get to it before the end of the season or not; we always had it in our back pocket to reveal it right around the time it felt right. The way it played out we chose not to reveal it until the last beat of the last episode basically teeing up what season five would be.

Now that you have some distance, what’s your opinion of season four?
Plec: That’s the million dollar question. I’ll be honest, as you know, I get a lot of grief through the social media universe. Big and bold opinions, so it can be hard to sift through those to get a sense of what’s working and what’s not, but if I separate myself completely from that universe and look at this season, I’m really happy with it.
Clearly season four was all about Elena’s journey, so what are you excited for fans to see in the final two episodes with her character?
Plec: She goes through everything in the next two weeks. She gets beaten down and broken and built back up and ripped apart and we get to see her kick some ass and see her smile — and then it’s still not over. More crazy sh*t hits the fan in the form of a pretty spectacular showdown between Katharine and Elena.
With The Originals, many fans are wondering how you bring Matt & Rebekah and Klaus & Caroline’s stories to a close. What can you say?
Plec: They are very, very simple and, I think, satisfying. I’m sure there are lots of people who would like to see more, but it’s satisfying and very enjoyable….so this is by no means the end of Klaus’ feelings for Caroline. If anything, it’s a new beginning.
Lastly, you’re coming off the show’s biggest season ending cliffhanger so far. How does this year’s stack up?
Plec: I think that we deliver pretty damn well, truth be told. It’s a double whammy cliffhanger, and this is, from an emotional point of view, one of my favorite finales we’ve done. Bold and potentially devastating.
Bonnie has vowed to keep her promise to Silas and has also partnered with Katherine. Is the girl digging her own grave or what? Julie Plec: [laughs] The beauty of Bonnie is that in spite of being led down some very dark paths over the course of the year her moral compass is stronger than ever and she’s definitely up to something. And if you’re up to something and you’re up to no good, you may as well partner with the one girl in town who’s better at being up to no good than you are.
Whether the Veil is going to drop or not, is that what Silas really wants or is there more that has yet to be revealed? JP: There is definitely more to the Silas story than has been told. His motives…he’s pretty honest. It’s just some details that he’s left out.
The Damon/Elena/Stefan love triangle. Is that coming back to life or is there too much going on to worry about where their hearts are? JP: Definitely the one lingering question as we get into the last two episodes is that Elena, as she makes her way back to her normal self, is going to have to get back in touch with her true feelings so that question is asked and answered before the season is out and it definitely seems very permanent and it’s life altering for all of three of them.
Are we seeing Tyler again? Or Jeremy, for that matter? JP: I can’t tell you but I can tell you that Tyler’s fate gets resolved by the end of the season.
Of course, I have to ask about Klaus/Caroline. Any movement with them either romantic or otherwise? JP: There is definitely some movement between two of them. Whether or not it’s romantic, I cannot say but we will see Klaus again before the end of the season.
With The Originals coming next season, safe to say we will see many new characters on TVD next season? JP: We’re definitely going to see some new faces. Some of our characters are going to go to college and Mystic Falls will have lost some of its vampire population and so there’s going to be new opportunities, new villains and new friends in season five.
